I used the crate a bit when Harley was little, he spent every night in it, and after the second night home at 9 1/2 weeks, he would sleep for 8 hours (amazing bladder for a little pup). He used to sleep in his crate every night until about a month ago. When we're gone during the day time I made him a little run with the crate and the hallway.
He's 10 months old and now we're moving into a new apartment, I intend on giving him almost free run of the whole place, at night he has his own room, with a crate, our spare bed and all his toys and blankets.
Harley did well with his potty training, as we used a grid system and put it in his play area. Now he knows where to find it... so I guess the crate was a huge part of him being house broke so early... I just hated locking him up. I feel better with him having space like in an expen or hallway.
