Giardia is an anaerobic protozoa. It's spread through contact with contaminated food, water or fecal matter. The protozoa are ingested in the form of cysts that then set up shop in the intestinal tract. Stress doesn't cause Giardiasis, but the stress of going to a new home, being shipped etc. will lower the body's resistance and allow an already infected pup to start exhibiting symptoms, including severe diarrhea.
