Personally, I like the crate. Merlin is in there overnight; he is content, never cries until he hears me in the morning and it takes me too long until I'm ready...
And I found it very good for potty training. It's nice to get up in the morning and no surprises waiting in the living room.
I think it's like with kids; there is a lot they don't like but Mum knows better and wants them to be safe. If I would have given in every time my skin kids were complaining...oh boy!
