We use a kitty litter box with the high sides (but we have a boy). Your girl won't need the high sides. We put a few paper towels in it and put a mesh wire type thing on top of the paper towels so he can't get to it. It works perfectly for us. We change the paper and clean the pan as needed--about every two pee pees or one potty. This way it doesn't smell.
