It took mine 3 months before I had a decent nights sleep. He would only sleep 6 1/2 to 7 hours a night and he got up in the middle of the night to go out. The last month I started to feel ill. I need 8 hours a night. I did have to ignore him when he cried or it only got worse. Anyway, he is great now. He occasionally wakes up to go out but he can make it the whole night. It is really discouraging when you're not sure if or when it will end but they do get better with age. For some the crate becomes their space and they end up loving it. If you want them to sleep in the crate I would say to stick with it and be firm.
