I bought a long ottoman with storage inside. It goes almost the width of my bed and I put it at the end. Oliver caught on pretty quick and now always uses it, and Mya didn't even need to be taught, she just watched Ollie. She can jump on my bed on her own, which is nuts as it's high - but she doesn't do it often. Really the ottoman was not much more than the stairs (I got it on sale for $75) and it's very useful, I store all my bedding in it.
I don't let them play on the bed... really it isn't safe. If they start to wrestle, I tell them off and they go play on the floor.
