1.7 lbs at 8 weeks is definitely not too large & shouldn't be the reason a vet declares a pup a mix breed...1.7 lbs is what, 1 lbs 11oz...the rule of thumb is to triple the 8 week weight or double the 12 week weight so that would give you an estimated adult weight of around 5 lbs. My goodness, what a huge yorkie...he MUST be a mix!

(this is sarcasm, in case it isn't coming off that way!) Don't worry about your baby's weight...it is well within the normal range.
As far as walking your pup, it's best to wait 2 weeks after the last set of shots before heading out on your first outdoor walk. Always use a harness for walking & NEVER use a collar. You can damage your baby's trachea if you use a collar. Collars should be for ID purposes only!
