I can tell you that I have met the nicest people and had conversations with them about the wonderful care they give their pups....only to find out when I do the vet check that they don't even vet their dogs at all. This has happened MANY times and is why I ALWAYS call the vet first. I am thinking you have no idea how many yorkies are ending up in shelters and/or rescues. There is an epidemic right now. |
This is New England. The Yorkies we have in rescue here are imported from other states. I have friends in rescue and I think I would know if there was a local problem. Rescue of this breed within this region is extremely rare, so you are correct that I have no idea how many yorkies are ending up in shelters--elsewhere. There is no epidemic of this in New England. My lack of knowledge about this is not due to stupidity but due to the lack of this being an issue here. Ditto the puppy mill situation. We have a few brokers around but no actual mills here.
