FM sufferer here. My MD described it as the nerves being over reactive, and it causes widespread pain all over when you have an occurrence. I take Topamax to treat it; however I was misdiagnosed with RA for a few years before they were able to successfully treat my case. I'm thankful that your MD seems to be investigating a bit more thoroughly than my first doctor did. Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find out. The good news is that whatever it is, it is manageable with proper treatment.
