If you look in the training thread there are lots of different posts about training. What is advisable though is to get a training book from the library and read up on training tips and systems, and then start to train your little one.
Your vet can microchip in the office. And it is really advisable to do. If your dog gets lost, or heaven forfend stolen, you want to be reunited quickly with your pup. All reputable vets will scan new "client" dogs on their first visit to them.
One of the first safety rules for pups is to train them not to bolt out an open door.
The second thing I train on for new pups, is the LEAVE IT command. This is a good thing because you want your dog to never eat stuff off the street when you are out and about.
The third command I teach is STOP Again this is for emergency use. The dog stops dead in it's tracks.
Say for example you just broke a glass on the kitchen floor. Your dog comes into the kitchen to investigate. You go STOP This way pups/dogs don't get their feet cut on glass.
On the training thread there are several books mentioned, and different training systems talked about.
Hope this helps.
