It's based off of operant conditioning, pure psychology. It's how we learn all essential behaviors. If you figure out that you get a positive reinforcement for a behavior, it is likely to be repeated. Eventually ... after you can call her name and get her to turn her head pretty much all the time ... then you only treat 1/3 times then 1/2 times and then randomly. This works with all behaviors/tricks. It's not so much teaching her that her name = a treat but more so that her name= something really good! Its just while she's learning (which is why I did kibble so they don't get spoiled and earn their food) but if you prefer you can do a click and praise or play as well. It's just a matter of learning what a pup gets excited about and is worth their time. =)
