I've just started using it on my one Biewer because his eye discharge had really increased. It seems to be helping quite a bit. The antibiotic is in there to help combat the yeast infection that is often affiliated with the red staining. Also known as red yeast infection. The red can also be caused by other things and not necessarily a yeast infection. Things like food as you have mentioned is one of them.

One other option you can try is to use bottled water for his drinking water. Not tap water. Or you can start to add a little vinegar to his drinking water if you are using tap water.

Know that some discharge is common with this breed. And some tear more than others.
