I have 3 cats ranging in size from 15 lbs (5 year old), a 17lb (10 year old) to a 22lb (6 year old). When I brought Bridget home, the cat I THOUGHT would be the first to accept her was the 5 year old and the last being the 10 year old. Boy, did I have it wrong - my 22lb-er (male) just laid right down and let Bridget jump all over him. My 17 lb (female) tolerated her - and my 15 lb (male) HATED her. Growled and hissed if she just walked by. He spent at least 6 weeks and probably 8 sitting on the top ledge of the kitty condo - just glaring down at her - and at us everytime we walked past. I'm not sure what changed - maybe he got used to the idea that she was here to stay - but he has not only accepted her - but they actually play together. She jumps on his back and chews on his ears - they run zoomies around the house together. He doesn't like to play for as long as she does and when he's had enough he'll gently let her know - but she's stubborn and it usually winds up with a "swat" (he's de-clawed), and his trip to the top of the condo. I think you just have to pay your kitty a lot of attention and let him/her know they are not being replaced. Try to include your kitty in play time - but let him/her go at their own pace. I don't think you can force it. Good luck - I'm sure it will all work out - just be patient - and very watchful for a while, as accidents can happen, especially with a puppy so young. |
