My boys are about the same height, tall and long-legged.
Height is somewhat of a factor. In my limited Yorkie experience, I have seen shorter, cobby body Yorkies grow floor-length coats in their first year.
As the exhibitors indicated above and in the thread I linked, they go to a lot of trouble to help their show dogs grow long coats. Wrapping is a big part of that, to protect the hair from breakage caused by daily wear and tear.
