At the time I was in, 3-10% of the Naval Academy grads p[ted for the Marine Corps. Not sure what the percentage is now. | I didn't realize that. I always associate him with the Marine Corps because of his father, who was a Marine fighter pilot. I've read every one of his books except for The Boo, which was a tribute to the Commandant of Cadets at The Citadel. He has since been welcomed back at The Citadel and delivered an amazing 2001 graduation speech. He speaks a lot of his father in his books, and The Great Santini is one of his most famous books. Pat Conroy didn't serve in the Marine Corps, but he has great respect for those who did. Eulogy for a Fighter Pilot by Pat Conroy |
