I tried french braiding once on Connor. My husband let him out into the yard while I was at work. I came home to a matted mess that took several hours to comb through. We lost quite a bit of coat, I cried, and I never tried that again. I braid Ace's tail but I wouldn't try braiding a coat that is the least bit soft.
Ace is dry wrapped, it's what works best for him. It takes a bit of experimenting but you'll find what is best for your boys coat.
