When my pups were little they wore a kitten collar on them with a little bell at night. The bell let me know when the pups started to wake and right away I would get up and take them to the pad. When they got bigger they did not need to wear the bell collar anymore as they usually wake up when I do and can hold it longer, hope this helps.
