I hope it is just sore and he will be fine in a day or so. I would keep him confined to his crate or small area and not let him be on anything that requires him to jump, even a little bit and see if a few days of this helps. I would also have my vet check him out just to be sure. One of mine recently walked off the bed by accident instead of using the ramp and a day later was limping so bad she couldn't stand up. She ended up having Luxating Patella.
