I know that broken bones can happen without really knowing what happened, especially the way they leap off of things.
Since he doesn't hold it up all the time, it doesn't sound too bad.. but I'm a worry wart so I would take him to the Vet to make sure. It might be a hairline crack that could break worse later. My friend just a month ago let her little one out to potty and she came back in with a broken "ankle".
