I'm not an expert but sounds like a reaction. Skin is the largest organ on any body and absolutely does absorb things that are applied to it. Normally Dawn is safe, it's used to remove oil from so many living things in the spills, etc... but I would imagine, like anything else, there is always the exception to the rule as far as an allergic reaction.
