My previous dogs have been large breed pups that I brought home at 8 weeks, and my current yorkie girl was purchased at 13 wks because she happened to be the last one left (guess I got lucky). Why is 8 weeks too young?
As previous posters have mentioned, 8-12 weeks is a critical time in puppy development. You will notice many, many posts here where a yorkie baby was taken from his/her mommy too early & now the new owner is having behavior problems. Of course, it doesn't always happen. But, it's frequent enough that I would rather wait the extra month & allow the puppy's mom train him a little longer.

Find the sticky thread about puppy development & give it a read...very useful info.
