Being slightly underweight is much better then being at all overweight for all toy breeds. You don't want any extra weight on him as it will only contribute to bone & joint problems. Also you should not let him jump on and off furniture. Tell him to stay & wait, then you pick him up and put him on & off the furniture. If you can't keep him from jumping then I would suggest getting some doggie stairs or a ramp for him.
