I don't know if it necessarilly soreness Max is feeling because all three of my dogs do thiswhen I pick them up. When I first got my Yorkie she would always make a noise similar to a wimper or a coo when I picked her up. I thought I was hurting her.

She's now 10 lbs. and nearly 2 years old and she still does it. And so do both my Biewers. To the average ear, it's so soft it's hard to detect. But to a Furmom's ear....we hear it loud and clear.
