They may change for a short while when they are getting used to the new addition.
I have an older cross breed terrier (shes 13 yo) and she is very jelous of the pup.
At first she wouldnt even sit in the same room as Poppy but now she does, she will play with her but barks at her alot (tails wagging all the time).
Jess (my older dog) has also got very clingy and cries alot when my pup does her high pitched bark.. Jess will follow me round the house when this happens and try and hide from it. (She tried to hide behind the bathroom sink this morning and got stuck!)
Things are slowly getting better it will just take time.
EDIT: Oh and no I dont leave them alone together, at night and when nobody is home Poppy is in her pen in my bedroom with the door shut.
