I have a friend who almost lost her female Biewer to HGE...they suspected bacteria from rawhide, bully stick type chews. They said the chew gets wet, bacteria grows, they chew on it again and get the bacteria in their system. I don't know if this is what actually causes HGE but that is what was suspected in my friend's case.

I'm glad your little guy is o.k. and home again.
