I am thinking of getting an small exercise yard/pen and in it putting a small crate for sleeping, a pee pad, and using this area as her area until I get her housebroken. I am wondering if feeding her in this area would be good too? So it's her comfortable "home" inside our home. Does that make sense? I want to train her outside but since I live in SD I think she might want to have a pee pad when it's blizzarding and below zero degrees outside. I have a big house with lots of steps so I am guessing keeping her in a small area would probably be best when she's training? Any input you have would be great.
Thanks!

Yes and depending on how old and how big she is be carefull with the stairs. I also have a house with all stairs, I keep on hand several baby gates so that small puppies don't fall down stairs. Also one of the early things my trainer told me to train these wee ones on is Door Awareness. Of course this is a two way street, you'll learn the YOrkie Shuffle, and to always look before you close a door. We do keep our puppies on one level, although some pups are true escape artists

It is inevitable one day your puppy will be crying at the top of the stairs, they learn to climb first going down is real scarey.
I use xpens, with a small carrier with a bed inside the carrier, I also once pup is settled in at home, we go for car rides, with pup inside carrier. We visit the vet's office and pet stores, with pup in carrier if shots have not been finished yet. We visit vets office a lot so that it is not stressful for the puppy later on. Usually they get a treat at the vets office

So carrier comes to mean good times, outings, and treats.
