I have a friend of mine that is a breeder of small dogs. She refuses to ship for this exact reason. Once the airline has possesion of the puppy, you have no proof of what happens before they get to their destination.
She has had several people who are too far to drive and they fly down. She meets them at the airport or they rent a car and come to her home.
Yes it does show that they care more about the welfare of their puppies and not the dollar amount being paid.
