When Cede Higgins took BIS at Westminster in 1978 he was wearing a red bow with white polka dots. It was his signature. Marlene also wore a red polka dog dress when she showed him.
It is my understanding that green was what was used during the very early days in GB.
Orange today is used when a dog has a bit more red in their gold.
