Confused Good kind of moral dilema

I found a real bargain on amazon. A new copy of "Rescuing Sprite" signed by the author, and I got it for a really good deal. I bought it for my wife for Christmas, so she doesn't know about it yet. The day I got it in the mail, the rescue where we got our current dog announced a silent auction.

I want to donate it, but, I feel bad. They take in mostly injured dogs and kill shelter dogs. They rehab the injured and adopt them out.

I love my wife, of course, and thought this would be a really special gift, because she loves this dog that we rescued, and she loves the author of this book.

So, the way I see it I have a few options:

1. Just send the book to the silent auction.

2. Tell her what I bought her and ask her to make the choice.(this is the most logical, but I don't feel right putting it on her), and sleep on the couch for a day or two.

3. Do nothing.

All input appreciated.... Thanks!
