I am not sure why it works, but it does! My guess is that it is because it has an opiate in it.
If your vet is not familiar with it, tell him to read his Kirk's Veterinary Therapy book! It is in there. My vet does a lot of reading and also consults bi-weekly with the specialists in this area (they all meet and discuss cases and treatments) and is really up to date on a lot of things!
