My dog and two of my mom's dogs have tested positive for Lyme's for years. Vinnie, my older yorkie, has tested positive for 6+ years now. They attempted to treat it with antibiotics when he first testing positive, but he had a bad tummy reaction so we stopped them. Six years later and the positive test result has seemed to have absolutely no consequence for his health. My vet said that they are seeing more and more dogs test positive for lymes and in most cases there are no effects. They told me about the symptoms and said if I see any of them, I should get him to the vet immediately for antibiotic therapy. Otherwise, I should not worry.
I have used Flea & Tick (Frontline) a lot, but in the past couple of years have become a little less willing to use it for a variety of reasons (including the possible harm it poses to dogs and humans in our household). At the very least, I never use it during the winter (just don't see the logic when it gets so cold here) and only rarely use it in the summer. I do use some natural flea & tick alternatives that I've picked up at my local natural dog store.
