One of my concerns is if that pit bull did manage to leap out and attack the larger tied up dog, there would have been a damn dangerous situation to try and break the pit bulls hold. There is a wooden dowel (not sure of the right term here) that very experienced protection trainers use when working dogs in protection training. It is used if necessary to pry apart the jaws.
And my hubby would have been in the thick of it. Agrr. In our car was only our first aid box (never leave home without)
