The shelter I volunteer at have a color code for the dogs. Volunteers can only walk green or yellow tagged dogs until they have 30 hours of experience. There are a few that can only be walked by the staff. I agree, when I went for my training, I wanted to run out of there. Then I saw how excited the dogs get when you walk by their cage, hoping to get out for a walk. The shelter has about 8 large fenced in areas where you can let the dogs loose and in the summer they have little swimming pools for the ones that want to play in the water. So many of these babies just need a second chance and I am so glad to see each week who got adopted. |
