These were at the Houston dog show in July and the pups had no problems getting into them. There isn't anything to hold the top up, but there was also no problem for the dogs to crawl under/into them. I got one of the Cloud Nine beds instead of one of these only because I have 3 kids who like to snuggle together. If I only had 1 or had one who liked to sleep alone, I would have gotten one of these instead.
