My dogs mom was 4.5lbs and she even had trouble giving birth (4 puppies somehow... seems like a lot). She needed a C-section, and the breeder rehomed her immediately after she recovered. it wasn't worth hurting the dog for to breed her again (it was her first and only litter)....
I now know that is an extra quality I'll be looking for if I ever need to go with a different breeder.
