I got my Papillon, Spicy, 6 months ago at 10 years old and blind with cataract. We had her operated on and now she can see perfectly.
Spicy is only 5 pounds which is really small for this breed. Normally they range from 10 to 15 pounds.
Spicy isn't a yapper at all, but she will definately let me know if someone or something is near the house. I can't believe how well she hears. She isn't a high energy girl either. In her earlier years she loved to play ball and such, but not now.
If you don't mind the shedding, then they would be a wonderful addition to any family. They shed like crazy. I use a slicker on Spicy twice a day and vacuum every other day. She gets a teaspoon of Shed-Relief every day that cut her shedding in half since I got her, and I don't bathe her but every couple of months since their coat tends to be on the dry side.
