My two do what ever I do...If I'm up late, they'll lie on the floor and sleep. Then when I say "okay let's go to bed. They'll get up and come with me. In the morning they sleep in with me as long as I do.
I think you can teach your baby to do what you want. If he/she wakes up too early..hold him/her back and say "go back to sleep" (mine sleep with me)
Almost just like a child...only dogs seem to listen better
