Dinky does about half the walk, maybe less.
The pooing in crate started once we put any bedding into the crate. We think the problem started because he thinks anything like that is a pee pad. The poo mistake happens more frequently than the pee mistake.

I agree that we need to scour that crate. He does seem to try to do it in the back. We've put the divider back up in the crate just now, so hopefully all of this will have an effect. I have thought that he feels safer going in his crate. he's so distracted outside; we have deer, foxes, all kinds of critters out there. So of course, he's always supervised. I wonder if he just likes to go in private. Regardless, he's got to learn outside only, and I feel confident that he will get it.
I went to the link you provided. Thanks, it was full of great info.
I know with my son's dog, I have to take him out first thing in the morning and then as soon as he eats, he has to go again. If you feed in between taking him outside and showering, that can stimulate the bowels. Also, some will just poop a little and get distracted, and don't completely empty the bowels, and that may be part of his problem. I do think some dogs like privacy, I've had many dogs where they look at me and I pretend to look away so they can do their business. He's still really young, but it sounds like you are doing a great job.
