Dinky has 2 or 3 poos a day. One very early about 5 am. This happens even if he had dinner at 5 or so the night before. He has another at around 10 am, and then his afternoon one around 6 or 7 during our walk. We walk 2 miles almost every single day of the year. We use umbrellas if necessary. Dinky does about half the walk, maybe less.
The pooing in crate started once we put any bedding into the crate. We think the problem started because he thinks anything like that is a pee pad. The poo mistake happens more frequently than the pee mistake.

I agree that we need to scour that crate. He does seem to try to do it in the back. We've put the divider back up in the crate just now, so hopefully all of this will have an effect. I have thought that he feels safer going in his crate. he's so distracted outside; we have deer, foxes, all kinds of critters out there. So of course, he's always supervised. I wonder if he just likes to go in private. Regardless, he's got to learn outside only, and I feel confident that he will get it.
I went to the link you provided. Thanks, it was full of great info.
