The way I see it is something better will never just 'come along'. Something will have to be made to happen.
The dog shows are AKC's ace in the hole for breed club loyalty. IMO, it could be inferred that the 'volume breeders' subsidize them to some degree. Not a very pleasant thought. It all seems like an unholy alliance.....confirmed by a wink, a nod and a blind eye.
AKC has been involved with puppy mills since their inception after WW2. Funny how they had survived and built their reputation in the dog world in the years before without the need for the extra revenue. At some point, AKC decided that growth outweighed prestige....again JMO.
