Default Question regarding beginning heartworm meds?

At LuLu's initial vet visit (14 weeks old), nothing was said about her needing to be tested for heartworms prior to beginning prevention meds...they just told us what was recommended to take, etc. We want to begin the meds tomorrow as it's the first of the month & will be easy to get on a schedule of giving it to her every 1st day of the month. From my research, it appears that testing at her age (she will be 16 weeks Tuesday the 3rd) is not necessary before beginning meds. I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything harmful to her if I give her the meds tomorrow without testing. I would have thought the vet would have tested her first if it was necessary, but I have a habit of double checking everything.

So, what's the consensus here? Do I need to hold off on giving her the meds & call the vet on Monday or is it safe to begin them tomorrow without testing?
