I don't know what's smarter,living in Irvine, or commuting. I payed $835 for my room alone at VDCN grad housing. It was a really nice apt, but geez it is pricey. But, my commute was short, hop on the shuttle and I was home in 15 mins ready to study.
Commuting is also a problem because of the time you waste on the freeway. My ex lived right near you, and he always had to time classes around traffic. It cut back on the freedom of choosing his classes.
