Welcome to YT! I don't have much experience with female dogs but I agree with 'cathys' up there. She could smell that your husband is sick - just because there's no change in scent for you, doesn't mean she can't smell one.
My dad had a heart attack a few years ago and our Sheltie stayed right there with him - almost every minute.
Just watch her. Good luck with your husband's liver transplant, I hope that works out soon!
