And like others have stated - there are some that you can not tell are bad, so you need to go to their home and check things out to make sure they are reputable. You should get a sence they are reputable or not once you are there. Go with your gut feeling. And if the breeder says - I can meet you somewhere and save you some driving time - run away. This is a big waringing sign. They just do not want you to see their home and the dogs.
Lorraine - Boy, when you turn away people they do get mad, don't they?? I have had this happened and what a scene usually. They yell at me. One girl was totally understanding that she was not ready. |
Well, I kind of get around it by not actually saying a puppy is for sure for sale, I am thinking about it. Or I say that I have a few people interested and am interviewing. I also make it clear that if they are travelling a distance to see me, this may not be the right puppy for them.
Usually I can get them to tell me enough on the phone whether or not it would be the right possibility. I usually will tell them if their scenario won't work that this is not the right puppy for them and tell them why.
In most cases, I tell them things they had not thought of and realize not the right breed or time for them. On occasion they yell anyway, LOL.
