But now, my 4 month old yorkie is 9LBS!!!! therefore he can climb over our 1.5ft gate. I dont want to just close the bathroom door because he is scratching it, and we already had to buy a bitter spray to put on the base boards in there because he was chewing them.

so, now I am at a loss for options. My husband says to just keep him outside but that is not an option for me due to neighborhood cats that run in our backyard and how small and young he is. I dont know what to do or where to put him at night now.....

any ideas?
PLEASE tell your husband these are not outside dogs. Ever.

Cats or no cats - they're too small and don't do well in the elements plus you'll end up with more issues than you already have.

He'd be miserable and you don't want that.... not to mention - the serious problems he may end up having if left alone with no human contact or even worse....you could lose him if something happened and you were't right there.

Yorkies are totally human oriented. If things are as bad as you say (keep reading and posting !) and you find no way out and your husband is still set on leaving him outside - the best thing for him would be rehoming.

Many people will take in untrained yorkies - anything is better than putting one outside. Some big breeds love it outdoors - but that's not the case with small breeds -especially yorkies.

I'd suggest an ex-pen but you'd have to find something he can't 'jump' over and that can be tricky but it's been done !! lots of people have had similar issues so hopefully they'll see this post and you'll get more suggestions (I've never had to block my girls off from me even as puppies so I'm just offering help from what I've read in the past)

I don't want to sound harsh but I'd def talk to your husband and if he has questions or doesn't believe this - have him come here to read the replies. I know others will say the same thing.

EDITED TO ADD - just saw the other replies - I'm leaving for work and didn't read all - sorry ! Didn't mean to repeat others - but again - no outside for him !!
