Hi and Welcome to YT! Wow that is some story... I'm in tears and smiling at the same time! So glad you have Eddy helping you. Sometimes these pups will get dominant/aggressive if they feel that you are not in control of any given situation. Maybe reassure him that you are okay and let him know that you have everything under control. Interrupt his protecting behavior with an 'Ah, ah' and tell him to go lay down or whatever you can get him to do to make him feel that you are in control.
