We do both pads and outside and the boys don't have any problems discerning when and where is appropriate to potty. However, I will say they are never out of my sight when I take them to places other than my home. I don't know if supervision is the key.
When Max was neutered, he refused to potty at the vet's office. He was desperate to get home to do it. Maybe he is that well trained. Also, when we stayed at a hotel, Max sniffed the wall where a dog had obviously marked. He lifted his leg, but he looked at me for approval before he did anything. I said, "no" and he put his leg down and went directly to his pad to pee. I checked the wall with my hand to make sure he had not done anything.
At your parents house, make sure you take your pup outside often. Always praise for a good potty. Supervise closely for a few visits. |
