Boy oh boy, do I know what you mean about vet visits. Especially these days
It sounds like it's possible that his tummy is just too empty in the mornings, and you could try feeding him as soon as y'all wake up, and after he's used the potty. Just something small, a spoonful of plain yogurt, cottage cheese, even hand feed him some of his kibble

My Luna does the same thing if she doesn't get her "cookie" immediately upon awakening and going pee pee. She won't eat kibble in the mornings, so I give her a little DVP Natural Balance biscuit, they're about the size of two of the kibbles
I'd try that, and in the meantime call your vet on the phone and ask what they think, if they want him to be seen. They should be willing to help you a little bit over the phone. If he is drinking water and eating okay for the rest of the day, it's probably the empty tummy syndrome, but these little ones can go downhill really fast. So if he's not drinking or eating his food at all, he MUST go to the vet immediately.
