Belly bands are a great way to assist in housebreaking. I have a 4 year old rescue and he was only 90% housebroke when I got him in December. The only time we have a belly band on him is when we are gone. Rumor has it that they don't like to be wet so they learn to hold their pee as long as they can. If you are gone for an extended amount of time (several hours - 6-8) if they have to go, they will go in their belly band. I can only vouch for adult yorkies as we got Toby when he was 3 1/2 years old after being in a foster home for a year (he was a puppy mill rescue). I can truly say he hasn't peed in the house in several months and if he has to poop and we don't get him outside in time, he goes on the puppy pad. He is the most devoted dog I have ever owned. I can't imagine life without him. So after all my rambling, yes! Belly bands are a huge help in potty training.
