WOW, is all I can say!!! I cant believe a vet would do surgery when pancriatitis is easily be diagnosed with a simple blood test!! My dog got it when she was about a year old , I took her to the vet, after a very simple blood test she was give sub q fluids and put on a very basic diet for a week which was boiled chicken and white rice. If I were you I would check the content of your current dog food and make sure the " fat content " is on the lower end I switched to 12% and everything has been fine since. My guess would be that someone gave your dog a treat or human food , that caused this. Chicken skin, ham, to many bully sticks, or a really fatty treat.... I would look into a different vet since I would only opt for surgery as a last resort. Pancreatitis can be controlled by diet!
